Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency
14th May 2024

Overall the staff were polite and courteous however they were overwhelmed and did not have the resources that they would like. The CT Scan team took 4 hours between seeing people and there was an unexplained absence there.

Suggested improvements
Everyone did their best so cannot ask for more.

I was told they couldn't help me, I have UC and was in a flare up and was told there is nothing they can do

Suggested improvements
They could of spoken to the IBD unit within the hospital, it was the IBD nurse that had put me on steroids the day after being at the hospital and was told by a consultant at the hospital I cant have anything other than diclafenic which I'm not allowed to take.

The waiting time of 12+ hours was horrific. I was able to get pain relief after about 6 hours. The medical staff did their best, as they were seriously understaffed. That night there was only one doctor on call. The following day only 2 doctors showed up. This is unacceptable for a health scare system of a developed nation. After waiting over 12 hours I still wasn’t able to get final answers about what my CT scan meant, because the doctor was relying on a ENT specialist at Queen’s to give their second opinion on the CT scan. The specialist at Queen’s obviously had now time for this and said they would look after their shift. No clarity on when that would be, so for my own mental and physical health I went home.

Suggested improvements
Have more doctors on staff and remove reliance on other understaffed hospitals. Priority pain relief for those suffering. If patients need to wait long periods of time, put the in rooms or beds that are more comfortable. The waiting area chairs are difficult to sleep on.

I can't fault the way staff, nurses and doctors treated me. They were all suoer friendly and kind. Listened well and were not quick to brush you off. I have 1 complaint only. I came jn with chest pain and left arm pain. I saw a doctor about an hour and a half after arriving. The doctor was thorough and requested i get an ecg, chest x ray and blood tests. I waited 3 hours after being seen by the doctor and saw many patients come and go. I did think a blood test and ecg should have been done asap...so 3 hours after seeing the doctor i went to find out why i hadn't been called. Turns out they missed me out some how and a nurse quickly did s blood test right there in the corridor. He told me to stay there and that i woukd get an ecg soon. I did literally 5 minutes later. Had i not gone to find out why i hadnt been called.... i would have waited even longer.

Suggested improvements
Maybe check to see if tests that have been requested ....gave actally been carried out

Yes, I was treated very well by all the doctors. They gave every information regarding the treatment on time and checked up time to time while I was admitted there. The staff was very good and treated comfortably.

Suggested improvements
According to me, everything was good regarding treatment.

I was treated extremely well. I felt staff were concerned for my well being. I felt a little excluded from some aspects but probably justifiably so. The 10 hour wait in A&E was an abomination. There needs to be more staff, more facilities in A&E to handle the volume. I blame the government not the hospital. What happened to the 4 hour target?

Suggested improvements
Reduce waiting time in A& E
